When I set foot in India for the first time in November 2024, I had no idea how profoundly that trip would shape my future. Standing in front of ISB Hyderabad’s iconic, earthy-toned campus, I felt an unexpected sense of connection. I had flown in from Singapore to attend the 2024 Leadership Summit and was curious about the school, its people, and whether it could be a meaningful next step for someone like me: an aviation finance professional considering a career pivot to India.
The energy of the place, the authenticity of the people, and the clarity of ISB’s purpose stayed with me. That moment became a turning point. I left the campus that day with a decision: I would apply, and I would return not just as a visitor, but as a student.
Singaporean Roots, Indian Ambition
I’ve always believed in syncing career decisions with macroeconomic trends by looking ahead, riding the next wave. And to me, there is no bigger, more compelling story than India’s right now. The country’s ambition to become a developed nation by 2047 is not just a line in a speech; it’s a movement, a vision that calls for action.
Opportunities are rapidly emerging across aviation, real estate, energy, and wealth management. I want to be part of that momentum and not merely as a participant, but as a contributor, a connector.
With roots in Singapore and an increasing pull towards India, I see myself helping bridge both ecosystems by enabling capital, ideas, and capabilities to move fluidly between them.
It’s also a strategic move. India is one of the key focus markets for DBS Bank, where I currently work. Being on the ground, understanding how business operates here, and building relationships through ISB’s network positions me to grow both personally and professionally.
Why ISB: An Intersection of Intent, Ambition, and Access
There were several reasons why ISB stood out during my research. The global credentials, triple accreditation, and strong alumni network were certainly reassuring. But what drew me most was the structure and spirit of the PGP MAX program, which was tailored for professionals at a senior career stage who are looking to do more, learn more, and grow more.
The curriculum, from what I’ve experienced so far, is holistic and future-facing. It goes beyond traditional business knowledge and blends leadership, innovation, and strategy in a highly relevant way. The faculty brings in not just academic expertise but real industry experience, which makes a huge difference.
Equally meaningful was the moment I received my scholarship. It was more than financial support; it was a vote of confidence, an acknowledgement of my journey and aspirations. It gave me an added sense of purpose and gratitude.
First Impressions: Camaraderie, Caffeine, and Case Studies
The first week at ISB was intense, but I mean it in a good way. From diving into case studies to adjusting to student life again, it’s been energising. The conversations during breaks (and coffee-fueled nights) with peers who are juggling similarly high-pressure roles and family commitments gave me an immediate sense of belonging.
There’s a quiet, mutual respect among us, almost like an unspoken acknowledgement that we’re all here for something more. While it’s still early days, I can already sense my perspectives shifting. The exposure to new ideas and experiences is beginning to stretch my thinking in ways I had hoped for.
Advice to Future Applicants: Show Up Curious
If you’re considering the PGP MAX program, come with curiosity. Don’t worry about having all the answers right away. Bring your questions, your intent to grow, and your willingness to learn. This isn’t just a program about business, it’s a journey of rediscovery.
If you're still unsure, I'd say this: visit the campus. Walk around. Talk to anyone you meet - students, alumni, or the admissions team. Have a cup of chai in the canteen. That one experience might give you clarity, just like it did for me.
Looking ahead, my goal is clear: To move my career to India, to contribute meaningfully to its growth story, and to establish myself as a trusted leader in banking. I don’t want to be on the sidelines of India’s transformation. I want to be in the middle of it, building, learning, and leading.
This is only the beginning, but I know I’ve made the right turn. ISB isn’t just an academic choice; it’s a bridge to a future I believe in.
